Micronychia is de term voor te kleine nagels. Dit kan vanaf de geboorte aanwezig zijn (congenitaal), bijvoorbeeld bij het Ellis van Creveld syndroom, of op latere leeftijd ontstaan (verkregen, acquired), bijvoorbeeld bij de ziekte van Raynaud en bij sclerodermie. Ook de term hyponychia (onvolgroeide nagels) wordt gebruikt voor vanaf de geboorte te klein aangelegde nagels.
