Background
Topical corticosteroid used in nasal sprays for the treatment of rhinitis.
Synonyms
(11b)-21-[(2,2-dimethyl-1-oxo-propyl)thi o]-11,17-dihydroxypregn-4-ene-3,20-dione
JO 1016
Pivalone
Procolon
Rectovalone
Tivalon-NT
Tiprederm
Tixocortol-21-pivalate
Tixocortol pivalate
Uses
Nasal sprays
Cross-Reactions
According the A-D grouping, patch-test reactions occur 6-7 times more frequently
within well-defined groups of structurally related chemicals than between
corticosteroids of different groups (Coopman et al). Tixocortol is
used as marker for contact allergy to group
A (hydrocortisone) type of steroids.
Unusual Reactions
Airborne contact
